Fertility data from the database of the European Demographic Observatory (commonly called the ODE collection: L'Observatoire Démographique Européen) comprise a significant contribution to the HFC. The ODE collection was kindly given to the MPIDR by ODE co-founder Jean-Paul Sardon for use in the Human Fertility Collection and the Human Fertility Database. It is an extensive collection of demographic data for a number of European and non-European countries that was assembled and continuously updated over many years through the late 2000s. At present, the HFC features one type of data from the ODE collection: smoothed period age-specific fertility rates for all the birth orders combined and by birth order.
